Underlying Causes of Air Conditioner Issues

You can easily identify the problems listed above, but what’s behind them? Here are some underlying causes of air conditioner problems and how an Aire Serv® cooling technician can fix them:

The A/C unit is not cooling the air.
A few things could be going on; the refrigerant (Freon) could be low and/or leaking, a window unit could have a sensor out of position, your thermostat could be malfunctioning, the unit’s drain could be clogged, or the filter could be clogged. One of our professionals will check refrigerant levels, sensors, drains, filters, and thermostat operation.

The air conditioner unit won’t turn on.
The electrical connections may be malfunctioning or the thermostat may be broken or need new batteries. A technician will check the electrical connections, fix any wiring issues, reset the circuit breaker, and make sure nothing is blocking the airflow at the outdoor unit.

Not much air is coming out.
The limited airflow could be a leaking or constricted air duct or a clogged, dirty air filter reducing airflow and air temperature. An expert technician will check for proper mechanical operation as well as the condition of air filters and ductwork. A professional cleaning and new air filters may be all that is needed.
